What is Skål?

Skål is a professional organization of tourism leaders around the world, promoting global tourism and friendship. It is the only international group uniting all branches of the travel and tourism industry. Its members, the industry's managers and executives, meet at local, national, regional and international levels to discuss and pursue topics of common interest.

The first Club was founded in 1932 in Paris by travel managers, following an educational tour of Scandinavia. The idea of international goodwill and friendship grew and, in 1934, the "Association Internationale des Skål Clubs" was formed with Florimond Volckaert as its first President, who is considered the "Father of Skål" .

Skål International today has approximately 25,000 members in more than 525 Clubs throughout 80 nations. Most activities occur at local levels, moving up through National Committees, under the umbrella of Skål International, headquartered at the General Secretariat in Torremolinos, Spain.

Skål International is governed by an Executive Committee of seven members, elected by delegates to an annual General Assembly, held during the World Congress, hosted by a different country each year. This allows members first-hand observation of the travel and tourism potential around the world.

Doing Businness Based on Friendship

Being made up of Travel, Tourism and Transport Professionals, the business advantage of joining Skål is obvious.

By attending local meetings, National & International Congresses and other events, members are able to meet industry colleagues from throughout the world, and above all, able to network with Skålleagues within the industry.

These meetings are held in an atmosphere of "amicale", and gives members the chance to make contacts on both a business and personal level, forging new and lasting friendships

What does Skål membership offer?

Members are expected to live up to the objectives and principles of Skål, which remains the same today as when the first Club was formed in 1932. To promote friendship, peace and harmony without discrimination.

Members also are expected to promote Skål, the formation of new Clubs and the recruitment of qualified new members, especially among the younger professionals in the industry.

Skål aims to consolidate its status as a professional association, based on quality, exclusivity and acceptance within the travel trade industry, by evaluating opportunities to promote the Movement more fully within this industry.
